The Practical Side of Self-Love

Welcome to Kokoro, where ambitious people come to do the inner work that creates outer results.

In this issue:

The Practical Side of Self-Love

Self-love equips us with new abilities we may have never dreamed we're capable of.

A client pauses, takes a breath, and proclaims, "I've thought it through. Here's what I'm going to do. I don't know if it will work out. But I know I'll be ok."

Another client tells me about finally seeing a pattern for what it was — a person showing her who he is. She acknowledges, "That's not who I want in my life," and let him go.

A third one tells me about initiating a difficult conversation they would have avoided in the past. They smile and muse, "I never would have handled it this way a year ago. I'm so glad I spoke up."

These moments are extraordinary evidence of empowerment, the external marker of self-love.

Uncertainty that once created self-protective paralysis gradually softens into self-trust.

Boundaries that once felt like they needed justification gradually become expressions of worthiness.

Conversations that once felt like conflict become opportunities to express their truth - radical transparency without attachment to the outcome.

You can't control how someone receives you. You can only control the choice you make.

As our self-love grows, our capacity to take calculated risks expands — that's the client choosing to act despite not knowing how it'll turn out.

We become better able to validate ourselves, which means we stop thinking someone else's pattern means there's something wrong with us.

And we become willing to say the true thing instead of avoiding it — that's the third client, choosing the hard conversation over the easy silence.

Self-love equips you with new abilities you may have never dreamed you were capable of. Rather than just trying to survive hard, uncomfortable moments, they become invitations to put self-love into practice in a visible, practical way.

Inner work creating outer results.

Try This

The next time you find yourself facing uncertainty, navigating a challenge, or contemplating a difficult conversation, pause and ask yourself:

*Who is this situation inviting me to become?*

Perhaps it's inviting you to become more courageous.

More discerning.

More honest.

More trusting of yourself.

(Maybe it's inviting you to live into one of the words you chose from the previous issue of Kokoro…)

Let that answer guide your next step.

What's coming up for you? Hit reply — I'd love to know.

1. Summer Fun - Karaoke

4 friends, 2 hours, 1 private room. For us, karaoke wasn't a show, it was a communion. Simultaneously a prayer, a protest, and a prophecy. We moved energy, unleashed emotions, touched fingertips with our past selves. I have goosebumps thinking about it.

Highly recommend a place with YouTube so you can get any song, any era, in any language. We hopped across decades, as well as languages - Hindi, Italian, and English.

What song do you crave to sing at the top of your lungs? What does it mean to you?

Four women smiling together on a bench in a private karaoke room

I never felt closer to these women than after 2 hours of karaoke.

2. Raspberry Sugar High

Check this out: Scientists found sugar molecules, deep in the Milky Way. The same sugar that's found in raspberries, kiwis and many red fruits. Apparently interstellar clouds of gas and dust are akin to "huge molecular factories", where the building blocks for life may have originated. This discovery is on top of other scientists having recently found sugar molecules on meteorites that could have transported them to Earth. This story simultaneously tickles me and fills me with wonder.

3. Turbo Babies

My favorite slice of the internet is the one that serves up cuteness. If you could use some more cuteness in your day, then I'm pleased to offer you something called Alvark Baby Race. I double-dog dare you to watch this without a smile or laugh escaping your lips. You're welcome!
